In recent months the Capital Male' has been rocked by a rapid escalation of violance. The majour contributors for this is assumed to be drugs, money and sheer joblessness. In Maldives as teenagers grow up there is very little external(by external i am saying other than the usual and mostly unregarded family advice) advice and guidance. For a moment lets exit the hypothetical eutopian traditional family scenarios that most unfortunate parents live in Male'. A playstation and a computer is not the only thing that would keep a teenager home, good private atmosphere is critical to a gorwing person.
At this stage thoug many like it or not their teenagers are not goin to like livingwith them, they would want to form their own ideas of the world and evaluvate their own ethics and belifs. Unfortunately most of our parents are not geared up to handle generation x , y and even z theyr try the everso often used method in our culture the ostrich approach. Anything that isnt school related is their own problem, this in turn makes teenagers head for the street corners to find their information and a place to fit in.
The western sociaety has made a whole culture to engange theese growing teenagers, simply called teen culture but it has many names. What i proposeis that Maldives starts youth organisations.forinstance we can have a coast care group that volunteers to clean up beaches in inhabited islands and resorts. This opens up opportunities of travell and interaction to people from different regions.Resots could sponser the costs incurred in travelling. It would look ggood on their PR as well.
The whole point about this raving is that young ppl will form groups , the question is wheather we want them to be made under drug lords of Male' in street corners or in safe councilled safe spaces where we help each and every single one of our precious next generation find themselves.....
